Learning something new as an adult can be exciting and a little intimidating at the same time. Whether you’re sitting down at the piano for the first time, returning after years away, or hoping to build on what you already know, you’re in the right place.
My approach is relaxed, encouraging, and tailored to your goals and experience. There’s no one-size-fits-all curriculum or pressure to progress at a particular pace. We’ll work together to make playing the piano an enjoyable part of your life.

Adult students can choose between 30 and 45 minute private lessons—choose the length that best suits your goals and availability.
Both options include access to my weekly office hours, giving you an opportunity to ask additional questions or receive extra support between lessons.

Adult Lesson FAQs

I use MyMusicStaff, an online studio management platform that makes scheduling, communication, and payments simple. Students have access to their own portal, which includes:
Convenient automated billing and payment management
Studio calendar with Apple and Google integration
Optional lesson reminders and notifications by email or text
Payments are securely processed through Stripe. Your payment information is stored through the payment platform, and I can view only limited card details, such as the last four digits and expiration date—not your full card number.

Sometimes a question comes up right in the middle of practicing, and you don’t want to wait until your next lesson to ask!
Every Friday from 2:00–2:30 p.m., I set aside time for adult students to drop in virtually, ask a question, work through a tricky passage, or get some quick guidance on whatever they’re practicing.
Office hours are included with private lessons at no additional cost. Students are helped on a first-come, first-served basis during this shared 30-minute window.

Beyond the cost of hiring a teacher, there are a few potential expenses to consider:
Music books and sheet music: Materials are selected according to each student’s needs, interests, and progress. I can purchase materials on your behalf and charge the card on file, or you’re welcome to purchase them yourself. Costs vary.
Instrument care and maintenance: If you own an acoustic piano, regular tuning and occasional maintenance help keep it in good playing condition. I recommend budgeting approximately $250 or more annually, depending on your instrument and its needs. Digital pianos do not require tuning.

Absolutely—and this is one of my favorite parts about teaching adults!
Music is meant to be enjoyed and shared. While private lessons are an individual experience, I also offer opportunities for adults to explore music together, connect with other students, and build confidence in a welcoming, low-pressure environment.
Adult Small Group Lecture Series
Each quarter, I host a small-group gathering exploring an interesting topic in music, from the stories behind familiar songs to the connections between classical music and today’s popular artists.
Past and upcoming presentation topics include:
From Bach to Billie: What Does Classical Music Have to Do with My Spotify Playlist, Anyway?
An Introduction to American Jazz: Listening, Understanding & Appreciation
Each gathering includes an approximately 30-minute presentation followed by 30 minutes of conversation, questions, and socializing over light appetizers.
You don’t need to play an instrument or know anything about music theory to enjoy these events. Curiosity is all that’s required!
Admission: $40 per event for the public, with a 25% discount for currently enrolled adult students.
Adult Performance Forums
Twice a year, I invite my adult students to gather at the studio for an informal, encouraging opportunity to share what they’ve been learning.
These intimate gatherings of approximately four to five students are a chance to play for one another, listen, exchange encouragement, and enjoy light refreshments.
There’s no expectation of perfection or polished concert repertoire. Whether you’re sharing a piece you’ve spent months learning or something you’re still working through, the goal is simply to enjoy making music together.
Admission: Complimentary for currently enrolled adult students.
